Biography

Dr. Rizwan Ahmad B. Pharm, Ph. D, is a registered pharmacist with experience in the field of teaching, pharmaceutical industry, hospital and community pharmacy. Dr. Rizwan Ahmad graduated with a bachelor of Pharmacy degree from University of Malakand, Pakistan in the year 2005. Developing practical skills in various domains i.e. Hospital, retail as well as an Asst production in charge and QC manager in various reputable organizations, Dr. Rizwan Ahmad got enrolled in a split Ph. D Program. This split Ph. D degree was pursued in Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry under the supervision of Prof. Luc Pieters (University of Antwerp, Belgium) and Prof. Dr. Mansoor Ahmed (University of Karachi, Pakistan). The degree was awarded in December, 2013 with a number of publications resulted from Ph. D thesis in reputable journals.

Dr. Rizwan Ahmad, teaching and research career started with Hamdard University, Karachi, Pakistan in the year 2010, as a lecturer in Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry with a promotion to Asst professor in the year 2014. In August, 2014 he joined Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University (Formerly University of Dammam), Dammam, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as an Asst Professor.   

After joining Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University (formerly University of Dammam), he was promoted as a coordinator of the department i.e. Natural products & Alternative medicines and Research committee for the college. Dr. Rizwan Ahmad is involved in teaching and research and is an active member of various committees for the college and university including; Research committee, Curriculum development committee, Quality and evaluation committee, Exams and standards committee, Committee for Academic affairs etc. Due to his devotion and hard work in teaching he was awarded “Appreciation letter from rector of the University” for best teaching and learning skills.

Due to commitment and dedication in research he was titled as “Highly cited researcher-2016” by Thomson Reuters as well as awarded with “distinguished research and Publication awards, consecutively for the years 2017/2018 and 2018/2019”.

The team work and research skills he expressed and with a potential to lead the research team, Dr. Rizwan Ahmad as an active member with mutual collaboration from Pharmacognosy & Phytochemistry, Pharmacy Practice and Pharmaceutics produced more than 90 publications in various reputable journals with high impact factor. A number of articles are in peer review as well as acceptance phase. Furthermore Dr. Rizwan have guided and supervised more than 50 undergraduate students and graduation projects in the college. 

Dr. Rizwan Ahmad research interests;

i.                    Natural products isolation, structure determination along with its pharmacological activities (AGEs inhibitor, antioxidant, Antidiabetic etc.)

ii.                  Development and validation of short and sensitive method of phyto- and food chemical extraction using Soxhlet, Soxtec, ASE (Accelerated solvent extraction).

iii.                Development and validation of fast and reliable method of phyto- and food chemical quantification via advanced analytical instruments such as LC/DAD, LC/MS, LC/MS-MS, UHPLC/DAD, ICP/MS and GC/MS

iv.                Herb-drug interactions, its in-vivo determination in animals and plasma quantification using the mentioned techniques

v.                  The use of herbs, its knowledge, interactions and safety in community as well as health concerns related to natural products in students and common population

vi.                Clinical trials (Phase-I & II) for natural products in healthy individuals as well as patients. Current projects on clinical trials and herb-drug interactions and its safety in community.
