Short description of the company / technology

Dr. Adjei is Executive Director, Research & Development at Rhodes Pharmaceuticals.  Prior to Rhodes, he was Vice President, Research and Development, from 1997 to September 2006 with Kos Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and prior to Kos, he was on the Scientific Ladder as a Volwiler Research Fellow at Abbott Laboratories from 1996 to 1997 and as Volwiler Associate Research Fellow from 1991 to 1996.  Dr. Adjei earned his Ph.D. degree in pharmaceutics under Professor Alfred Martin, University of Texas at Austin, in 1980.  Dr. Adjei's primary research interest is pharmaceutical research with focus on brand and generic products development, including CNS drugs, psychiatric drugs, peptides, proteins and biosimilars.  He has about 43 years’ experience in this field.  Some aspects of his work include the use of experimental design in drug formulation research, optimization of systemic delivery of peptide and protein drugs via ion-pair formation techniques and structural chemistry modifications.  He has interest in stabilization and characterization of biotherapeutics, their mode of degradation, and uptake and distribution across biological membranes.  He has worked on sterile products, oral liquids and suspensions, as well as oral solid dosage forms launching 5 NDAs, 32 ANDAs and 2 PLAs in the US.  He is a member of several professional and honorary societies including American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS), Phi Kappa Phi, Rho Chi Society, and Sigma Xi, to name a few.  He is Fellow of the AAPS.  Lex has co-edited one book and is author of 12 book chapters, and over 50 publications and nearly 45 United States and several European patents. Dr. Adjei has given several presentations by special invite and has reviewed several manuscripts for the International Journal of Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Research, Journal of Pharmaceutics, and the Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Lex is proudly married to Alice Adjei, with whom they’ve raised their 43-year old daughter, Abigail, and a 40- year old son, Albert, during 44 years of marriage.  He humbly serves as an Elder at their home Church, Quidnessett Baptist in North Kingstown, Rhode Island.
